They were expecting Paamayim Nekudotayim? (2006-03-29)

2006-03-29

I'm not quite sure who he (or she), is, but PHP apparently expects him (or her) in times of distress, according to this error message I got the other day:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ')', expecting T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM in /Users/marc/Sites/rundoc.php on line 37

And, that same day, I got one of those great dialogs that you get when developers put their time into fancy non-rectangular windows rather than into renaming the Cancel button:

I think this means that if you want to Quit and cancel, you press the Quit and Cancel buttons at the same time. No, wait, you press Quit to quit and cancel, or Cancel to cancel and Quit. No, that's not right... you press Quit to Quit and cancel, or cancel to do the opposite, which it to not Quit and not cancel. In other words, you press Cancel if you don't want to cancel, and if you do want to cancel, you don't press Cancel.

I just know that Paamayim Nekudotayim could help me out here...
